Last Night in Soho
Many nights watching
HBOmax is showing this movie by a great director Edgar Wright. While it took me 3 sittings with a 2 month pause, I did manage to finish it because the director finds things to share that one doesn’t always consider. And he likes cinema and honors the tradition of it.
As any viewer of entertainment knows, all cinema now seems to have supernatural aspect to it. You need it to get someone to watch. To sum it best, I saw this picture today in my FB stream:
The same can be said of a movie about a lonely farm girl who lost her mom to mental issues trying to redeem her life and herself by going to London and becoming a famous fashion designer. Yawn.
Why not throw in the go-go 60s time travel, murder mystery, and suspense/horror?
It got my attention.
Edgar Wright’s movie is very mature and doesn’t babify it’s audience. He captures the honesty of girls encountering true independence in the big city while endeavoring to grab what they perceive their dreams are.
Today, I note that the supposed villain was Doctor Who. Talk about a character reversal. Oh, and he is also in the new Game of Thrones spinoff.
