Mental Flossing the Iran Question
and lets throw in Epstein for good measure
Today I forced myself to record a podcast before taking the kids to school.
Why?
Three people from the day before showed up and had a conversation with me.
Maybe from where you’re sitting, three people don’t sound like much, but try cold calling people for a living and have a heart-to-heart conversation, and you will know it is tough.
The data is about 1 per 100 calls, give or take.
So, from where I am, anyone who talks to me is a 1-in-a-million opportunity.
When my wife gave birth and was recovering, I was in the hospital restroom trying to close a deal because I want the best for my family, and that is all I know how to do: sell.
Sell what I know and am convinced of.
It was 2021, yes, I had a Covid baby, I mean, what else was there to do?
It was a tough year for everyone, and for me to get customers. Like today, as you are seeing, many of my inclinations are turning out to be spot on
But as I noticed over the breakfast table and while pulling into the kids' schools, I’m not listened to and not in control of the decibel level and music selection.
What’s the point if you are given the answers and no one wants to listen?
Why God?
Because that’s the point.
Or at least my rationalization.
That I have two paths I must learn and be greedy about …
Patience and allow the right people to discover it,
because obviously, I’m rough around the edges and need the time to develop not just my delivery but my execution.
Keep learning to sell and package it in a way people want to digest.
The problem is that I’m a contrarian, I guess, at Heart.
and realized where it all stemmed from
Groucho Marx
from a song he sang
“Whatever it is, I’m against it…”
Being a contrarian is great when you’re trying to understand markets.
It also shapes how I look at geopolitics.
At the end of the day, we have all been here before, so when folks tell me, and it’s what most people think
“The US really has no interest in Iran.”
I’m against that view.
“I ask them, what happened in 1803?”
We have been involved in the Middle East since the founding of this nation.
A superpower, according to the class of geopolitical guys, is one that guarantees the free flow of commerce through the sea lanes.
While we may not realize it, international trade is the lifeblood of global commerce, which the US secures but does not insure (until recently)
and a big reason that the US entered into a Civil War with the South as the South would inhibit interstate commerce
When trade is effected, the US military is right there knocking at the door.
Focus on history
Not on what MIGHT have happened or certainly did with the Epstein files, as the “intent” is woefully missing, and while you focus on that razzle dazzle
Congress won’t release the sexual scandals roaming around the halls of our highest office that may make what Epstein files seem like giving girls a hickey.
Sometimes it helps to be against conventional wisdom, except when you need to play ball.
And that’s how it goes
que sera sera
And yes, this song was made famous by Doris Day
but made an indelible to me one fine Saturday when
I brought some food to the local homeless guy near my dorm in NYC
And he said to me, “No thanks, man.”
As he walked on, singing that song.
Always think about that.
Have the greatest Saturday you ever had
Eric
