The Warren Buffett Quote for All Seasons
How one quip can change your perspective on Everything from Geopolitics to Life
Warren once quipped
"Money doesn't really change you. It just makes you more of who you are.
If you're a jerk with money, you're a bigger jerk.
If you're a kind person, with money, you're a kinder person."
I think about this quote a lot, not when I meet successful people, but when I do transactions with businesses, and when our country has negotiated with the enemy and with friends in the past.
When did we try to appease our enemies with money and economic commerce?
What about giving nations of the world a seat in the United Nations, where their modus operandi is the opposite of that?
The quote, like many things he says, is deeper than you realize and should impact you more as he NO FRIEND of this current administration.
Personally, I have enjoyed seeing and noticing what my customers do with the success I helped them achieve
But there are times when Buffett’s saying is so true, the small gnat becomes truly a work of art, and I have to conclude my business relationship with them.
There comes a point in business where you just can’t handle it anymore…
oh, hell no
I’m not going down that path again.
That’s why a lot of times when you meet and try to do a deal with someone far more successful, they disarm you with stuff not related to business because it’s all proportional.
They know it, and they sure as hell don’t want to create a certified drama queen.
The seemingly innocuous camaraderie is to see what you will be doing with the newfound success you will be given
So speaking objectively, I ask you to apply Buffett’s maxim to questions of our age
(I’m not answering these - Oh, hell no, I’m not getting into any of these debates):
What has Europe done after the US rebuilt the continent with the Marshall Plan?
What has Japan done after surrendering to US forces?
What has China done since Nixon visited China?
What has Iran done with the money and peace pact the USA provided them previously?
What have illegal immigrants done with the opportunities given to them in the US?
The list goes on
I would be interested to hear Warren’s view on the question I presented.
So on that note, value the opportunity given to you and realize it’s all proportional.
You aren’t going to solve the world’s biggest problem, and neither will our government, but at least recognize that any help provided will amplify that individual’s inborn personality.
Once you realize that, it will help in your decision-making process in both investing and life.
